The city is easy to reach by car from all directions. The newly built A38 offers easy access to A9 and A14 from Markkleeberg. 
The highway B2 has three exits, enabling direct and easy acces to the different areas of Markkleeberg.
Travellers coming by plane can either use Leipzig-Halle Airport in Schkeuditz or the regional airport Altenburg-Nobitz. The train coming from Nürnberg (going over Hof, Plauen, Zwickau, Chemnitz and Altenburg) stops in Markkleeberg as well as the city railway (S-Bahn) between Leipzig and Borna which comes every 20 minutes.
Several tram- and bus-routes between Markkleeberg and Leipzig and all the surrounding areas complete the excellent public transportation system.
